Voice Chat
On Survival, Java players can use proximity voice — nearby players hear you when you talk. Optional voice groups work like a party channel. Bedrock does not use this feature; you need the Java PC client with a small add-on installed (see below).
Before You Start
HyperBlocks already runs voice on the server. You only install something on your own PC — a client add-on called Simple Voice Chat so Minecraft can use your microphone.
Match your Minecraft version. Use the same Java version shown on our website header when you join (for example Java 26.1.2). Every download below must use that version.
In-game shortcut: run /getvoicechat on Survival for a link to this page and the voice info hub.
What You Are Actually Downloading
| What | Do you need it? | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Mod loader (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt) | Yes — one of these, only if you do not already play modded | Lets Minecraft load add-ons. Think of it as a separate launcher profile — not part of vanilla Minecraft. |
Simple Voice Chat (the mod .jar) |
Yes — this is the voice feature | Download the build that matches your game version and your loader from Modrinth — Versions. |
| Dependency (sometimes listed on Modrinth) | Only if Modrinth says it is required for your file | A small helper library for that loader. Put it in the same mods folder as Simple Voice Chat. |
| Server / Paper plugin on Modrinth | No — skip this | For people who run their own server. HyperBlocks already has voice enabled. |
Easiest Path (First Time, Vanilla Player)
If you normally play vanilla Minecraft and have never installed mods, Fabric is usually the quickest route for “voice only.” You will create a new launcher profile — your vanilla install stays untouched.
- Download the Fabric installer. Open it, choose your HyperBlocks Minecraft version, leave the loader version as recommended, and install.
- In the Minecraft Launcher, select the new Fabric profile (not “Vanilla”).
- On Modrinth — Simple Voice Chat, set Game version to yours, set Loader to Fabric, and download the newest
.jar. Add any required dependency Modrinth lists. - Put the file(s) in
%appdata%\.minecraft\mods(create themodsfolder if it is missing). - Launch with the Fabric profile, join Survival, allow the microphone if Windows asks, and press V to open the voice menu.
Already use Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt? Keep that loader — do not add another. Download Simple Voice Chat for that loader instead of Fabric, and use your existing modded profile.
Full Install Steps (Any Loader)
For video walkthroughs, watch on YouTube: walkthrough 1 · walkthrough 2 — or use the players below.
- Pick one mod loader — Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt. Install it only if you do not already have one (Fabric · Forge · NeoForge). Do not install more than one loader for voice chat.
- Download Simple Voice Chat from Modrinth: set Game version to the one you use on HyperBlocks, set Loader to the same loader you chose in step 1, then download the latest
.jar. - Put the
.jarin your mods folder — usually%appdata%\.minecraft\mods. Add any required dependency files to the same folder. - Launch with that loader’s profile (for example “Fabric” — not “Vanilla”) and join Survival. Allow microphone access if prompted.
- Confirm it loaded — press V to open the voice menu. No menu usually means wrong version, wrong loader on the file, or the jar is in the wrong profile’s
modsfolder.

How to Use In-Game
- Open the menu — press V (default key) to open the Simple Voice Chat GUI: settings, mute, groups, and recording options.
- Proximity — when you are not in a private group, players near your character hear you; distance follows server settings (3D positional audio).
- Push-to-talk vs voice activation — configure in the in-game Settings panel (open with V, then the gear). Choose a comfortable push-to-talk key or enable voice activation and adjust sensitivity.
- Whisper — hold the whisper key (set in controls) to talk quietly to nearby players only.
- Groups — create or join a group from the GUI to talk with specific players even when they are far away (party-style). You can invite others with
/voicechat invite <player>or through the social screen, as described on Modrinth. - Server command — use
/voicechatfor HyperBlocks’ voice-chat command shortcuts (see Commands → Community).
For icons (talking, muted, disconnected) and screenshots of the UI, see the Simple Voice Chat project page on Modrinth.
If It Does Not Work
- Version mismatch — the mod build must match your Minecraft version and loader. Mismatches usually mean the mod does not load at all.
- Wrong profile — the Minecraft launcher profile you use to join HyperBlocks must be the one where you installed the mod.
- Microphone blocked — check Windows Privacy → Microphone and that Minecraft is allowed.
- “Not connected” icon — often a blocked UDP path or VPN; try another network or disable VPN for testing. (The host opens the voice UDP port on the server; players normally do not forward ports.)
